The orange tree-art project: call

site specific work for De Oranjeboomstraat

UP TO GARDEN TIME

The brand new foundation The Orange Tree [TOT] invites Rotterdam artists to submit a sketch design for a site-specific circular work of art around the theme The Garden in Time.
For the execution of the design, the foundation offers a 270 m2 garden with a brick wall of approximately 15×4 meters. These locations can be used according to the Foundation's own ideas. In this garden the selected design will have its place; from construction to decay.
Normally, the garden will be opened to the public at regular intervals during the creative process. A public that is invited to participate in events around the artwork.
As this commission will be realized at the time of COVID-19, we are bound by the known restrictions. Therefore, in addition to the visual artist, we have invited a filmmaker to follow the creative process by means of recordings that will be placed on social media.

So we are looking for a site-specific circular work of art.
A work of art that, in addition to its art quality, has a literally dissolving, therefore temporary capacity. We see organic materials as a possibility, but we like to be surprised.

Location: The garden of the studio building at Rotterdam South, owned by SKAR.
Address: Oranjeboomstraat 109

Dates:
-1 July deadline for outline ideas, explanatory notes (max 1 A4), plan of activities and short CV (max 2 A4), a portfolio (pdf) related to this call (5 images) or a reference to your website. Send your material in a zip file or via we-transfer, in a pdf (max 10MB) to: tot@lasloplanet.org.
-15 July publication of the selected artist(s) and start of consultation between the artist(s) and representatives of TOT
-from 20 July to 8 August furnishing of garden workspace
-from 16 Aug to 31 Dec 2020 possible working period of the artist

Fee: 1500,- excluding VAT, including material, travel and transport costs

The process is recorded in ten short film shots, from the initial phase to the decay of the work of art. The artist is expected to cooperate in the form of agreements regarding the making of the shots, short interviews and an explanation of the work to a wider audience. The planning of the interviews will be made in good time and in consultation with the artist(s).

Questions and possible request to visit the garden: tot@lasloplanet.org.

The Orange Tree Foundation (TOT) works for visual artists to provide them with a temporary workplace and to be able to perform productions together with other artists and professionals. In this way the Foundation contributes to the development of artistry in general and artistry in Rotterdam in particular.
With presentations of the productions, the Foundation wants to make a connection with an interested public and sees a social necessity for a connection between the Foundation and the residents of Rotterdam. TOT wants to emphasize that art is not used as an instrument to create an encounter. TOT values art for the sake of art, for its artistic value.A TOT project always has a temporary character and the end result is an exhibition, exhibition, event or product.
