We already wrote it: we have been able to keep the rent at the SKAR standard, until now. There was no standard for service charges: there the energy companies (read: the market) determine what the prices are. And those prices went up significantly, especially in the years 2022 and 2023. These were also the years in which we negotiated a new contract with Eneco, because our old contracts were expiring. That did not go well - we either received no offer, or offers that were well above the prevailing market price at the time. Offers that were also withdrawn within a day. And other companies did not want to quote either. In the end we ended up with Gulf Gas and Power.
New Energy Contract with Gulf Gas and Power
Effective August 1, 2023, we entered into a 3-year contract with Gulf Gas and Power. This gives us certainty of gas and electricity prices until August 1, 2026. The rates are as follows:
- Gas: about €1.18 per cubic meter (including all taxes)
- Electricity: €0.20 per kWh
These rates remain competitive so far. The exact rate depends on the connection in the property, whether there is a peak and off-peak rate, and changes in VAT or tax structures.
Settlements and Delays in 2023
Gulf bills once a year and because we switched as of August 1, 2023, we did not receive the first statements for the contract year until September 2024. From these statements we extracted the actual consumption in 2023 with associated costs and included that in the final final statements for 2023. This has caused many statements to be later than as usual.
We are currently investigating the possibilities of making the 2024 settlements again in the first quarter of 2025 or whether we will have to wait for that again until September 2025 when the standard settlements from Gulf come in again.
