SKAR has the ambition to switch completely to solar energy for all our buildings. The first building is the Ackersdijkstraat. There we are going to fill the roof with solar panels. Neighbourhood residents will be able to benefit via a cooperative.
SKAR has two reasons for using solar energy. The first is that we want to use it to keep energy affordable. Prices then no longer have to rise with what the energy companies charge us. The other is that in this way we contribute to sustainability.
First project: Ackersdijkstraat
In the Ackerdijkstraat we are now starting our first solar project, with a roof full of solar panels. First of all, we will provide the building itself with solar energy. But there is more space on the roof. We have therefore offered tenants and local residents that they can also use the solar energy at home through a cooperative. In this way we help the neighbourhood and tenants at home can benefit from the advantage that they also have at their studio.
All solar powered workshops
We are also looking into whether we can meet all our electricity needs in SKAR's workshops with solar power. If we can, we can keep the price of electricity at the same level for the next 15 years. We also want to make the workshops more sustainable by insulating them better. In the Insulindestraat all windows have been replaced by double glazing, and we will turn the roofs of the Koraalstraat and the Borgerstraat into green roofs. If all goes well, that will make a difference in the heat during the summer and in the cold during the winter.
