This year we are going to start with new studios at five locations: the RET-remise on the south, Makerdam in Delfshaven, an old school building in the Liskwartier, a location for major work in the Spanish polder and a breeding ground for fashion in the old North.
To the south we are working at the Waalhaven, in the office building of the old RET depot (see highlighted image above). There we have signed a lease for 15 years. It is over 400 m2: two beautiful floors, and on the ground floor tenants can make use of a space where the public can be invited for performances, prrsentations and more. We rent the building together with the Veldacademie and Creative Management, and we are mainly looking for artists and designers who seek contact with the surroundings in their work.
Fablab Makerdam in Delfshaven
In Delfshaven we will manage a building in the Spanjaardstraat for at least five years: Makerdam, a small fab lab with laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC equipment which the tenants can use. The building is the old office of housing corporation Havensteder, in a district where the innovative manufacturing industry is in full development. The Merwe4haven is next door and the Bouwkeet was recently opened. We are still looking for designers and makers who want to participate.
Koningsveldestraat: studios, gallery and catering industry
In the Liskwartier we are busy preparing the old school building on the Koningsveldestraat. The building is beautiful, but rather neglected, so we have to do quite a bit to get it back in order. It does result in beautiful studios, with a nice combination of a gallery (Gallery Untitled) and a small restaurant (Cook&koek) on the ground floor. The old schoolyard becomes a garden, where you can also visit the neighbourhood.
Large space for image-makers in the Spanish Polder
In the Spanish Polder there will be a location where image-makers can do major work. It is an old shed for school books, with a solid flat floor. The workplaces can be arranged flexibly and there will be a common space for the heavier tools. The location is easily accessible by car/bus. There is still space here as well.
Hatchery for fashion in North
Finally, in the old North we are working on a breeding ground for fashion: The Laundry. We are doing this together with Stipo, Stad2 and Van Schagenarchitecten, who have already taken the initiative in ZoHo. This is where fashion designers and everything they need to develop, from tailors to agents, come.
