It seems that slowly, very slowly, the world is starting to turn again. The first beer on the terrace tasted delicious and the mouth cap is starting to get used to it. Still we are far from there. I see, that's gratifying, that several think tanks are emerging about how we should proceed after Corona. That is often about the whole city. What I would like to work on is how artists/creatives can start earning money again. And, how we can take action as soon as possible. Thinking is good, but doing must also be done, preferably at the same time.
One of the ideas that already exists is the call from our studio building in the Oranjeboomstraat, the Orange tree art project. A great idea anyway, and a very welcome idea in this day and age.
The municipality is aware, and this is also good to report, that artists/creatives need workplaces. This summer we will get two more places, one in the Robert Fruinstraat (opposite the Wilde Weten) and one on the Mathenesserdijk, the place where until recently Theater Babel was located. But also others will help us: The Industriegebouw has made a building available to us on the Veldkersweg for 10 years. We are in talks with various initiatives to give substance to these premises. What helps is that we can now also demonstrate that it makes economic sense to have a studio building nearby.
The chores can start. We will start with the first job in the week of June 23rd, the others will follow soon. And, good to know, there's still room to sign up. You'd rather do that than postpone paying the rent.
Finally, back to doing that, if you have any ideas on how to get the economy running again for artists/creatives (and hopefully even more solid than in the past), send them on, they're more than welcome.
