Once a year it seems as if the whole of Rotterdam loves art. And secretly I think it really does: during Art Week Rotterdam. It is - perhaps fitting for February - one of the shortest weeks of the year, with just five days. And by now so much is happening that you would long for a full week.
Woody van Amen and his wife Cocky left in 1961 by freighter for New York to live and work there. His 8mm films made there formed the starting point for the shortdoc Pop Secret (which was shown at IFFR 2020). After two years, Woody returned to Rotterdam to move into his studio, which has been the basis for his unique artistry for almost 60 years.
The maintenance of workshops is a shared responsibility. For the studio building as a whole, it is the responsibility of the landlord, SKAR. The maintenance of the studio itself (inside) is the responsibility of the tenant. What does this mean?
Together with Coöperatie Ondergrond, SKAR will transform the tiled squares around studio buildings into a network of green oases with added value for tenants, local residents, (urban) nature and the urban climate.
SKAR will provide space for a new breeding ground in Hoogvliet at the beginning of 2020. In light and large classrooms of almost 60m2, at least 10 people will be able to set up their own ateliers. At the moment it is even being explored whether it is possible to create space for small living forms such as tiny houses around the STROMING building. Is that interesting for you?
