Dear tenants,
We have some good news. Earlier this year we indicated to the municipality that, after the settlements of last year, we wanted to avoid high settlements for the current year as well. In fact, the prospects for that were not good.
As we told you earlier this year, as of August, we switched to a new energy supplier. As a result, we now pay SKAR-wide the same amount per kilowatt-hour of electricity and per cubic meter of gas consumed. That amount is already significantly lower than what we had to charge in 2022, which in itself was good news. But what Eneco charged us for the first eight months was even higher. Without going into details, for the whole of SKAR it meant that, on top of the advances, we had to pay a lot more. Without help from the municipality, we would have had to pass that on to SKAR's tenants. We had to work hard, but we managed to convince the municipality that SKAR should qualify for the available emergency support. Especially since tenants individually cannot claim the emergency support but the that the vastly increased energy costs would no longer be bearable for many tenants. We are very happy with the help of the municipality.
What does that mean? The basic principle is that the settlement that goes through us for 2023 for your building, assuming equal consumption as a whole, must not exceed what all tenants combined in the building have paid in advance for that year. How that works out personally for each tenant depends on whether there is individual billing and, of course, individual consumption. And also it depends on how much was consumed in the property (although we see almost across the board an equal or lower consumption, so that will not often be an issue).
So for now, good news. At this time, it's nice too.
On behalf of the team of SKAR
