Newsletter February 2023

Dear tenant,

It's that time again, the Rotterdam Art Week Rotterdam is starting. Art is everywhere next week and that will be a celebration in the city! Besides fairs and regular exhibition venues, many studios and creative collective buildings are showing what they have to offer this week. In this newsletter, we like to tip you off to some Open Ateliers in our properties. And stop by the HBS for a special Open Day with tours and performances.
We also have a housekeeping announcement about the garbage calendars, an extra window film tip and a call for chores for rent. And last but not least, a new staff member we'd like to introduce to you.

HBS Open House, Feb. 9

Something wonderful is brewing behind the facade of the former HBS building on the 's-Gravendijkwal. More than twenty cultural organizations and creators have joined forces to develop the new culture hub for Rotterdam there. The result: 3,000 m² of culture!

Among other things, the HBS houses a dance stage with a wide range of different styles: from modern dance (Dansateliers) to urban dance (Lloyd's Company and Amenti Collectief). And rehearsal rooms, offices and production spaces for musical creators from modern classical (DoelenEnsemble) to hip-hop (Bollebof, Aran) and from soul (Shirma Rouse) to world music (Magda Mendes). But it also houses a production house (Dansateliers), a livestream recording studio (GÂRDEN), and a music venue + music cafe (New Grounds).

Thursday, Feb. 9, HBS will once again open to the public with an "old school" HBS Open House. On this day, you will have the special opportunity to learn about these organizations and discover what they have to offer. And you can join one of two tours (16:00 and 18:00) through the building along a unique and vibrant program including drinks and meet and greet with the residents. Discover exciting dance performances, new musical collaborations and showcases of the creative makers!

Location: HBS, 's Gravendijkwal 58 A+B, Feb. 9 between 4 p.m. - 8 p.m., admission free, please make reservations

Chores for hire

SKAR wants to help tenants pay (part of) their rent by doing odd jobs, as we have done before during corona. In Het Archief at Robert Fruinstraat 52 in Rotterdam-West we have a number of jobs to do. Think mainly of preparatory cleaning and painting work, building walls and finishing various construction work. We will start doing this this spring, with a peak in May and June.

Sign up for odd jobs for rent
Would you, as a tenant, like to do odd jobs in order to 'clear' your rent arrears and do you have time in the coming months? this form.

Meet ....

We have a new face on our team. Since mid-January Claudia van Popering started as employee Management and Maintenance. A fine reinforcement in the team of SKAR.
As a tenant you will come across her more often, as she follows up on reports and keeps an eye on whether work goes according to schedule and budget. She will also deal with business processes to contribute to the professionalization of SKAR.

EXTRA TIP for window film

In the January 2023 newsletter, we already shared some tips from tenants about applying window film. We heard from a few tenants that condensation did occur between the window and the film. As you know, condensation is not good for window frames because it can cause wood rot. Our advisor has advised us to keep a close eye on this and see if it clears up by itself when the temperature changes. So do keep an eye on this yourself.

TIP!
For tenants who are still going to apply the film in their studio: do it when your studio is cold, because cold air contains less moisture.

Good luck!
