Rising energy prices

Over the past year, we have talked to you a lot about rising energy prices. It will not have escaped your notice that the costs of energy consumption are rising on average much faster than the inflation that affects the rents. This means that energy is taking an ever greater share of the total cost for a studio. The energy issue is a development that SKAR has been working on for some time, because our main goal remains to keep workspace affordable for all tenants.

We have received disturbing reactions from various tenants following the reports over the past few months about the sharp increase in gas prices. We ourselves are also concerned about this.

This year, we have entered into talks with energy suppliers to obtain new contracts. We have suspended these talks for the time being because the gas market is currently in a peak. This makes it unwise to fix prices now. However, we are keeping a close eye on developments and will strive to obtain the best possible price.

More generally, SKAR wants to investigate how to prevent tenants from paying increasingly higher prices for heating the studios and the building in the future. We will discuss the solutions we are thinking of with the sounding board group.
We realise that this uncertainty regarding energy prices can have a great impact on you. As soon as we have more information, we will share it with you.

Rotterdam Makers Grant Scheme 2021

The City of Rotterdam has opened the Makers 2021 subsidy scheme for Rotterdam-based makers or collectives of makers who are professionally active in the creative and cultural sector as creative artists or designers. The aim is to support Rotterdam-based makers in the cultural and creative sector who want to make a step forward in their professional practice after the major impact of the coronal crisis.

The scheme offers room for experimentation, deepening and professionalisation without having to lead to a final product that is presented to the public.

Complete applications will be processed in order of receipt until the available subsidy ceiling has been reached. So be quick!

Give me space

You can still register for Geef me de Ruimte, an exhibition of Art, Fashion & Design for and by Rotterdam-based creatives. Contemporary artists, street artists, designers and shapers exhibit their work at AVL MUNDO. There are already over 100 participants in the field of Art, Fashion & Design.

All profits from sales go to the makers and entrepreneurs. You are also free to organise your own activities such as shows, photo shoots, auctions, workshops, lectures, performances and tours. Please consult with us, but there is room.

Geef me de Ruimte takes place from 17 December in three large empty halls of Atelier Van Lieshout, in the M4H district. Address: Keileweg 10-12.
