Relocation

SKAR has moved! We will be in The Archives starting in August, on the first floor. We will officially open the office in September, but before then, you are welcome.
Next to the office is a new presentation room. Herman Lamers, after his wonderful series of presentations in the past year(https://hilton-art-lab.com), has created a concept for this in which studio buildings can also play a role. More on this later, but in any case, stop by during GRAW(https://www.grootrotterdamsatelierweekend.nl).

Fire safety: prevention

Before the summer, we sent you a message in response to the Keilewerf fire. Then it was also about insurance. We got a lot of responses to that - we will come back to it, but keep sending suggestions.

Even more important is to prevent the possibility of fire(https://www.skar-ateliers.nl/voorkom-brand/). That starts in your own studio. This is something we addressed before the vacations.

No stuff in the hallways
But the space outside your studio is also important. We still see many hallways being used as (temporary) storage rooms. To put things there that don't fit in the studio. This is not the intention for two reasons: it is a fire hazard, and it can obstruct escape routes. This is why we must emphasize again now: corridors and public spaces must not be used for storage. Those who do not have enough space can rent storage space from us. It is the responsibility of tenants themselves to keep the hallways and public areas clear. Therefore, we assume that you can arrange it among yourselves as tenants. But we are going to keep an eye on it, and if you don't manage it, we will have to remove the stuff ourselves. In that case, we will also have to recover the costs from you. Please let's prevent a fire from breaking out.

Astrid Moors on facade of SKAR office

SKAR, as mentioned, has a new office. And in that office we would like to pay attention to the artists who rent from us. Every two months we will ask a different artist to use our facade as a "sketchbook" and put a temporary work on it.

On the glass facade, Astrid Moors(https://astridmoors.nl) was the first to install a temporary work.

LAUNDRY THE STORE

The Laundry opens pop-up shop in Bijenkorf Rotterdam
Fashion hub the Laundry is opening a special "Shop" in the Rotterdam branch of the Bijenkorf. Eight sustainable brands from De Wasserij developed a limited edition collection at the invitation of the Bijenkorf, made with damaged items from the department store. The collections consisting of one-of-a-kind garments, shoes and accessories. After successful pop-ups in Rotterdam, The Hague, Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Utrecht, the project is once again landing in Rotterdam as 'WASSERIJ DE WINKEL'.
WASSERIJ DE WINKEL is located on the second floor of the department store, in the women's department, until September 10.

With the collaborative project, brands from The Laundry show the value of fabrics and materials. The Beehive regularly receives items that are damaged or broken. These products are made from beautiful quality materials, but because of a defect, they can no longer go on sale. The designers show that we don't have to throw away garments with stains, holes or other damage. Using various upcycling techniques, they breathe new life into damaged clothing and create unique wearable pieces. Participating brands are:
Versatile Forever - EIJK - Atelier Markx - DAIR design - Studio Ilfa Siebenhaar Construct to Survive - Marlou Verheijden - Rosalie Key
Through the collaboration between the Laundry and the Bijenkorf, damaged items get a second life and Rotterdam sustainable brands get a national stage. You can visit WASSERIJ DE WINKEL in Rotterdam until Sunday, September 10.
