Storm damage and fallen trees

Dear tenants,

It was exciting to see how our studio buildings would survive the stormy Friday and the following days. The storm caused serious damage to a number of buildings, including one with serious damage to the roof. This caused a lot of water damage for a number of tenants. We will try to help these tenants as best we can.

A large number of buildings have received reports, varying from fallen trees on the site to leaks. The SKAR team is busy this week dealing with all these reports together with various contractors. This means that less urgent reports may take a little longer to deal with. We hope for your understanding.

Reports can be submitted online via our website as usual.

International exchange through Rotterdam Roofing Days

Fancy working in Belfast or Nicosia?

Rotterdam Roofing Days is looking for Rotterdam-based makers and artists who want to discover the roofscape of Belfast or Nicosia in 2022. With nine partner cities, Rotterdam Roofing Days forms the European Cultural Rooftop Network(ECRN.city), through which they explore and unlock the potential of flat roofs and the roofscape of cities by working with artists and creatives. As part of this, they allow Rotterdam artists to explore Belfast and Nicosia within their own artistic fields; visual arts, music, architecture, etc.

Are you interested in the urban environment, the city as cultural heritage and/or architecture and urban planning from your creative work practice? And are you looking for an opportunity for international exchange? Read more and apply! Please note: the deadline for applying is next Monday 28 February, so be quick.

The Beehive X The Laundry

The tenants of De Wasserij, the breeding ground for innovative fashion, want to contribute to a better (fashion) future, among other things by tackling pollution through the re-use of textile waste.

In close collaboration with designers from De Wasserij, Bijenkorf has launched a unique upcycle collection to give discarded products a new life. Unsold laundry baskets, for example, are given a colourful update and old Levi's 501s are transformed into tiedye denim dresses.

Stop by at Bijenkorf Rotterdam to get your hands on one of the unique upcycled products or to attend inspiring demos and talks by the designers of De Wasserij. The pop-ups can be found in the basement and on the parterre until 13 March. Read more for all events.

Service costs as of 2022

In buildings where each studio has its own meters for heat and/or electricity, a new standard for settling service costs has been established as of 2022. Nothing will change for other buildings.

We have noticed that there is still confusion among a number of tenants about how to calculate the service costs. That is why we have made a clear calculation example, explaining how the service costs are calculated for these tenants.

The starting point is that, as is customary for tenants, all individual costs are calculated on the basis of the meter readings for each studio. All other costs are general costs. For the general costs, a new allocation key applies for the 'variable' general costs and the 'fixed' general costs. Read more for an explanation and calculation example.

If you still have questions, please let us know at info@skar-ateliers.nl.
