Els Maasson
Els Maasson (1967) Royal Academy of Art, The Hague
Craftsmanship, careful choice of materials and a fascination for all kinds of animals go hand in hand in Maasson's work. She makes graphic images of animals, often provided with a text like in a schoolbook. She is called the administrator of Noah's Ark. Like a shaman she always searches for the essence, the essence of an animal species. For example, she does not make an image of an individual sparrow, but of The Sparrow in general. She herself says: "In my work you find animals and plants as an image and form in themselves, but also as a personification of what lives in me, what I long for, what I love and the way I associate".
Petra Laaper
Petra Laaper zooms in with images on the basic experience in which meanings are still open.
Her work manifests itself sometimes as a body in space, sometimes as an attribute for an action, an object that can be picked up, held up and tried out. She shows simple forms that are recognizable, without being able to derive an identity from them. Personne, meaning (n)someone, sketches a portrait of her research into the body and the beauty of her movement.
Petra Laaper (1968) is a visual artist living and working in Rotterdam. A graduate of the WDKA in Rotterdam in Sculpture/Monumental she makes objects, installations, photographs and stop-motion films. She also studied interior architecture at the HKU in Utrecht and gained knowledge in the field of ceramics at the European Ceramic Work Centre in Den Bosch (now Sundaymorning@EKWC). She exhibits her work at home and abroad and realizes various commissions for the semi-public space.
