Most of SKAR's studio buildings are surrounded by tiled schoolyards. Beautiful places that need to be filled in. But for which, understandably, there is often not enough time and attention to give meaning.
SKAR and Cooperatie Ondergrond will transform these tiled squares into a network of green edible oases with added value for tenants, local residents, (urban) nature and the urban climate.
Gardens with a variety of crops, offering shade and peace and coolness and a beautiful sight for tenants and local residents.
The meaning of green in the city is changing. The role of green space for biodiversity and a pleasant living climate in the city is increasingly recognized, the new college wants to realize 20 hectares of green space in the city. The SKAR gardens fit into this development.
To achieve this, SKAR and Cooperatie Ondergrond will enter into a long-term partnership, initially for 10 years. This term offers opportunities to really build something of value. SKAR will initially make 6 squares available to Cooperatie Ondergrond for a symbolic rent. They do the design, construction, management and harvesting. For each location they look at whether co-use by tenants, volunteers, local residents and/or local entrepreneurs is possible.
