SKAR supports Amsterdam incubators

Cutbacks in hatcheries are disastrous for a colourful city

In 2021 and 2022, the City of Amsterdam wants to make cutbacks of no less than 51% in Amsterdam's breeding ground policy. A very unfortunate timed intervention that, on top of the corona crisis, will mean disaster for many creative entrepreneurs in the city. SKAR supports the Amsterdam incubators Urban Resorts, the Arts Association and Platform BK, which on behalf of interest group Incubators MRA (Amsterdam Metropolitan Area) have launched an urban action against the proposed cuts in the incubator budget.

Cutbacks in breeding sites are disastrous for a colourful city. The result of such cutbacks is that in the next 2 years more than 6ooo m2 of breeding ground will disappear and 175 artists and creatives will lose their homes and workplaces. In the next 5 years that will be 57.600 m2 and space for 1650 artists! That is why we argue for investment instead of cutbacks.

In the video below, tenants and parties involved each speak out in their own way against the austerity measures and the ongoing economization of Amsterdam. Read the entire plea here.
