The Orange Tree Art Project: open call!

Call for ideas 2021

Open Call for Ideas Sketch 2021
The Orange Tree art projects (TOT)

English below

For the second year running, The Orange Tree [TOT] is inviting Rotterdam-based artists to submit an initial idea sketch for a site-specific and temporary work of art on the theme of The Garden! For the implementation of the idea, the TOT foundation offers 270 m2 of garden and a brick wall measuring approximately 15 by 4 metres. These locations can be used as one sees fit.

In this garden, the selected idea will be developed by the artist in a process of research and construction. TOT offers a work period of two times three months (two artists three months each) or one longer work period of six months (for one artist).

Explanation
TOT offers a safe space for artists in the garden. A place to experiment and investigate. A space where the artist can expand his or her artistry. In addition, with this assignment we offer the possibility to present the developed work of art at the end of a working period.

Location
The garden of the SKAR studio building in Rotterdam South.
Address: Oranjeboomstraat 109

Possible work periods
- 1st period: 1 July - 1 October
- 2nd period: 1 July - 1 December 2021
- 3rd period: if the two selected ideas cannot take place in the above periods, it is possible to move one work period between 1 March and 1 June 2022

Planning
- 25 May: Deadline for reactions that include ideas, explanations (max. 1 A4), scenario for activities and short CV (max. 2 A4), a portfolio (pdf) related to this call (5 images) or a reference to your website. Send your material in a zip file or via wetransfer, in a pdf (max. 10 mb) to tot@lasloplanet.org;
- 3 June: announcement of the selected artist(s);
- June 9: start of consultation between the artist(s) and representatives of TOT. Draw up a timetable for the first work period from 16 June to 1 July: access to the garden and set up of the workspace.

Fee:
The fee is €2,000 per artist for a work period of three months, €4,000 for the artist choosing a work period of six months. The fee includes VAT, materials, travel and transport costs.

The process is recorded in a number of short film recordings, from the beginning to the final phase of the work of art. The artist is expected to cooperate in the form of agreements concerning the making of the recordings, short interviews and
explanation of the work to a larger audience. The planning of the recordings and interviews will be made in time and in consultation with the artists.

TheOrange Tree (TOT) Foundation
The foundation is dedicated to visual artists in order to offer them a temporary workplace and to enable them to carry out productions together with other artists and professionals. In this way, the Foundation contributes to the development of artistry in general and in Rotterdam in particular. A TOT project always has a temporary character, with the end result being an exhibition, show, event or product.
